Video Devlog 4 - Items, Backgrounds, Status Effects, and More!


Hello! Here's what I've been up to these past few weeks:

  • Battles now have backgrounds! One for the outside, and one for the fight in the building.
  • The sprites that tell you which ponpai is moving next have backgrounds of their own, so they stand out in any background. You can choose how many of them appear through the pause menu (whether you want to see four spaces ahead, only one, or not at all!)
  • The inventory can be viewed through the pause menu as well! I've added some more food items, as well as held items you can give your ponpai. Your Batteneye will be holding a red orb by default, which raises her stats by a small amount.
  • The info boxes that appear in battle and in the team builder are bigger now. To access them in the team builder, you have to click a certain ponpai without moving them. Exclusively in the team builder's info box, you can also change their held items, rename them, or get rid of them entirely!
  • Three new ponpai have been added: Ringaround, Caviterror, and Chefire!
  • Two new status effects: Crying, which makes a ponpai take chip damage whenever a teammate is attacked, and Pressure, which permanently disables the ponpai's attack if they miss it.
  • All NPC ponpai have proper talk sprites now, as opposed to reusing the battle sprites.
  • There's a car running around the overworld!
  • I've updated the pictures in the itch.io page to represent the current build better.
