Ponpai Update 5 - Second Anniversary!


Hello! Things have been a bit rough for me lately, but I'm proud to say this update launches on the 4th of April: The second anniversary of Ponpai's inception! I've said this before, but it originally started as a spreadsheet of funny little monsters, and it was never meant to be a full game. Two years ago I shared it with my friends, and they encouraged me to see this dumb little project to its fullest potential! For everyone who's encouraged me to get this far, and to anyone who's checking this out now and has no idea what I'm talking about, thank you!

Here's what's new:

  • There is now a birthday cake on Jasmine's table to celebrate :)
  • Your inventory no longer shows items you don't have yet! When you receive a new type of item, it'll be added to the end of the relevant category. If you run out of this item, they will still appear in the inventory, but transparent.
  • Battles will give a different amount of money, depending on the level of the opponents! To match this, the Rattrap in the forest will only ask for $300. What a deal!
  • New ponpai, of course!
    • Seeds! She's the rat who runs the black market! Go to the cave to buy some cheap and valuable items from her. Just be wary of fakes...
    • Faecido, a fairy born inside an apple!
    • Omnigorge, an ever hungry frog! They will use their tongue to drag opponents forward when they attack!
    • Donmaid, a creature who wants to help you out a little too much!
  • Beating a boss (and moving to the next chapter) will automatically heal your team!
  • There's a proper victory screen now! It'll only cover half of the screen, so you can re-read the battle log if you wish!
  • Added a few new NPCs to talk to. Most notably, once you've beaten the final boss, Nico will appear in the abandoned town to give you some lore about the Ponpai world!
  • Ponpai will "trip" when they miss their attack due to sheer chance. It even comes with a small animation! If the attack has no targets, it will still read "it missed" without the animation.
  • Pink and brown have been added to the title screen!
  • Items can now be seen when talking with NPCs, or when picking the item up!
  • Fixed some glitches:
    • You can no longer walk through the right side of Jasmine's apartment in certain points. This will also apply to the other maps, but I don't think there were any walls there to walk through in the first place.
    • 00000000's sprite will now be properly sized if it's a mascot.
    • Jasmine won't appear in the bestiary if you're standing on the cliff in the forest. Long story.
    • I learned how to spell "caffeinated".
